Your day lives in the notch. To-dos, notes and meetings, one hover away.

Free. Needs macOS 13 or later.

Everything you need. Nothing to manage.

Otto is small on purpose. It opens when you look at it, closes when you don’t, and never asks for a Dock icon.

Capture a to-do in a second

Press ⌃⇧N from any app, type, press return. Write “fri” or “tomorrow” and it becomes a due date as you type.

Notes next to your tasks

Jot things down without opening another app. Lists, code blocks and quotes included.

See the meeting before it starts

A quiet dot appears in the notch. Minutes before, Otto opens itself with Join and Snooze. Works with the calendars already on your Mac.

In the notch, or floating

Pick where Otto lives. Both work the same way, and you can switch any time in Settings.

Keyboard first

Everything you do every day works without the mouse.

  • New to-do from anywhere ⌃⇧N
  • Switch list ⇥
  • Complete the selected to-do Space
  • Join the next meeting ⌘↵
  • Open your notes ⌃⇧E
  • Move a to-do up or down ⌥↑↓

Yours, as plain files

Everything you write is also saved as Markdown in a folder you choose. Open it in any editor, search it, back it up. No account, no sync service.

Free, with no account

Download it, open it, use it. No sign-up, no paywall, no trial.

Quiet by design

No Dock icon, no badges, no notifications you didn’t ask for.

Private by default

Your to-dos and notes never leave your Mac. Usage counts are anonymous and only if you say yes. Read the policy

Three moves, then back to work.

Press ⌃⇧N

From any app. The notch opens with your cursor already in a new to-do.

Type it

Add a date in plain words. Press Tab to choose the list, then return to save.

Carry on

Otto closes by itself. When a meeting is close, it opens again with a Join button.

What’s new

Otto ships often, and updates itself. Recent changes:

Join and snooze from the alert

Press ⌘↵ to join and S to snooze while a meeting alert is up. Alerts are no longer skipped after you close the notch on an open note.

A new Settings window

Nine pages with search and native macOS controls. Pick your layout, theme and opening speed in one place.

The logo looks around

During setup, the two O’s in Otto’s logo now look around and blink. They stay still if you use Reduce Motion.

A friendlier first run, and sleepy lists

A new setup guides you through tasks, notes and meetings. Empty lists now take a nap instead of saying nothing.

Questions, answered.

Is Otto really free?

Yes. Otto is free to download and use, with no account and no paywall. If it earns a place on your Mac, you can buy me a coffee. The app stays free either way.

Does my Mac need a notch?

Otto is designed around the notch, but you can choose a floating panel in setup or in Settings. It opens with a shortcut instead. Otto needs macOS 13 or later.

Which calendars does it read?

The ones in your Mac’s Calendar app, including iCloud, Google and Exchange accounts you’ve added there. Otto only reads events. It never creates, edits or deletes one.

Where is my data?

On your Mac. To-dos and notes are stored locally, and a Markdown copy lives in a folder you choose (by default Documents/Otto). There is no Otto account and nothing syncs through a server.

What does the anonymous usage data include?

Only if you say yes during setup: which features are used, the app and macOS version, and a random ID that isn’t linked to you. Never your to-dos, notes, calendar or anything you type. You can see exactly what is sent in Settings. Full details.

Will macOS warn me when I open it?

No. Otto is signed with a Developer ID and notarized by Apple, so it opens like any other app. It also updates itself from inside the app.

Which languages does it speak?

English and Italian.

Give your notch something to do.

Free for everyone. Like it? Buy me a coffee.
